Steve Bullock recognizes that Montana cannot have statewide prosperity without economic prosperity for all tribal nations in Montana. He regularly visits all seven Indian reservations and consults with tribal leaders.
After more than a decade of negotiations, Steve brought all parties together to pass and sign the CKST-Montana Reserved Water Rights Compact resolving the Tribes’ claims to reserved water rights.
Steve signed an Executive Order to establish a state Office of American Indian Health to work closely with tribes addressing health disparities and expanded access to health care for up to 20,000 American Indians. In addition, he expanded the Indian Country Economic Development Program that allocated $1.6 million to Tribes, Native-owned businesses and advisors to help expand job growth.
Last year, Steve worked with the legislature to create the Montana Indian Language Preservation Program and sign the Culture Integrity Commitment Act to preserve Indian languages and their culture.
