Money In Politics
One Big Idea to Fix our Democracy
Our nation is founded on the basic idea that every American’s voice matters. Yet too often it’s those who can cut the biggest checks who wield the greatest influence. Fighting against the toxic influence of money in politics has been the fight of Steve’s career. And he’s just getting started.
Healthcare is a Right
Access to healthcare should not depend on the size of your paycheck. It should be a right for all. But with over 27 million Americans still uninsured, we have work to do. To ensure high quality, universal healthcare access, we must take bold action to make care more affordable while expanding access and improving existing coverage. This can be done by building on the success of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), not dismantling it.
Tackling the Climate Crisis
The climate crisis is one of the defining challenges of our time. Americans are already living with the effects of climate change. We see longer fire seasons and more destructive natural disasters. Yet, Donald Trump and dark money groups representing the energy industry have taken us backward by gutting pollution standards, expanding drilling into sensitive areas, and abandoning our global leadership.
Public Education: One of Our Great Equalizers
Public schools provided Steve, and many others, with a foundation for the rest of their lives. Today his children go to the same public schools he and his wife, Lisa, attended. Steve believes that no matter which zip code you grow up in, you should have great public schools that give you an opportunity to learn, grow, and prosper.
A Fair Shot at a Better Life
While the wealthy have seen an economic recovery, many people who go to work every day are facing diminishing opportunities. Steve believes we must make sure every American who works hard has a fair shot at success. That means creating the opportunities that come from a great education and job training, reliable and affordable healthcare, a good job, and retirement security.
Foreign Policy & Defense
A Safe and Secure America
The greatest responsibility of the American President is to keep our country and our people safe. Governor Bullock believes that President Trump’s “America First” approach has turned into “America Alone”—isolating us from our allies, eroding our credibility, and making us less safe. Steve will keep America safe and restore our standing as a global leader.
Reforming America’s Immigration System
America’s greatest strength is the promise of freedom and opportunity. Immigration used to be a bipartisan issue. We can get there again, if we don’t allow Trump to use immigration to turn us against each other. As Americans, we have more in common than what separates us, and with the right leadership we can find the common ground necessary to pass sensible, comprehensive immigration reform.
Labor Rights & Working Americans
Standing With American Workers
Steve knows folks want a fair shot at a good job, a good salary, and good benefits. This ensures Americans can raise their family, build toward a healthy retirement, and be secure in the dignity of their work.
Making Housing Affordable
Whether in urban or rural areas, housing is becoming more and more unaffordable for many Americans. At the same time that salaries are not keeping up with the cost of living, costs are increasing for everything from healthcare to education to child care.
Infrastructure investments create jobs that can’t be outsourced while connecting our nation physically, digitally, and economically. These investments are also a key part of our efforts to benefit from the new clean energy economy as we also take action to combat climate change. Investing in infrastructure will result in better quality of life for all Americans and ensure we remain competitive globally.
A Fair Shot for Rural America
As the Governor of a state with one of the highest percentages of rural residents in the West, Steve Bullock knows rural America is full of opportunity because he’s lived it. But rural America’s economy hasn’t seen the same kind of recovery that cities and suburbs have experienced since the end of the Great Recession. That’s why Steve is proposing a plan to help rural America recover and thrive.
